Details between TOYOTA PICKUP/HILUX 1989-1995 4X2 4X4 Corner Lights-1
The Toyota Pickup (USA) / Hilux is an extremely popular model with impressive sales worldwide. Although the 4×2 (RN85/RN90; LN85; YN85/YN90) and 4×4 (RN101/RN105/RN110; LN106/LN107/LN110) versions differ in appearance, many people still find it difficult to tell them apart. To clarify the differences, we conducted a comparison between the Pickup / Hilux 2WD and 4WD models. Below are the relevant part numbers:
Toyota Pickup (USA)

As you can see, the part numbers are very similar — often differing by only the last digit — which makes them easy to confuse.
From the front view, the Pickup / Hilux 2WD corner lights are narrow at the top and wider at the bottom, whereas the 4WD version is wider at the top and narrower at the bottom.
From the rear view, the 2WD corner lights appear slightly larger than the 4WD ones. We even tried flipping the 2WD corner lights upside down to see if they would fit, but they didn’t. The photos clearly show that the 2WD lights have sharp corners, while the 4WD lights feature rounded corners.
Finally, we measured them for accuracy:
2WD corner lights: 12 cm at the top, 19 cm at the bottom
4WD corner lights: 16 cm at the top, 11 cm at the bottom
These measurements confirm that the 2WD corner lights are larger and not interchangeable with 4WD ones.
In summary, when identifying whether a 1989–1995 Toyota Pickup/Hilux is 2WD or 4WD, the corner lights are the easiest visual clue—aside from the grille and bumper.
