The in-person events have been called off, but the shows will go on virtually

It seemed inevitable, but now it’s confirmed: the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto, as well as the Montreal International Auto Show, will be held entirely online for 2021, and will not function as in-person events due to the pandemic.

The Toronto auto show would usually take place on February 12 to 21, while the Montreal show was set for January 15 to 24, explains Automotive News.

“It will be the world’s first virtual auto show and run as a true event — one that excites and drives the new car consumer market in the critical spring buying season,” said David McClean, Director of Marketing at the AutoShow. “As the automotive landscape changes, the Canadian International AutoShow changes with it, leading the way in terms of how the automotive world connects with consumers.”

Toronto’s virtual show will be held online in its original timeframe, February 12 to 21; while the Montreal auto show will also move its online take on its show to January 20 to 24, 2021, and make it free of charge.

“It would have been easy to make the decision to just skip a year, but we wanted to keep this tradition going in January despite the absence of the in-person event,” MIAS President Francois Boisvert said in a statement.

“Our goal, above all, is to stay true to our mission, and to continue offering Quebecers a platform that allows them to discover a complete offer of the automotive market, and assist them in their mobility choices, all presented in one place.”
